- Gamecenter
Gamecenter is fully supported by Dash Race. There are multiple leaderboards to compare your performance with the worldwide competition, as well as several achievements to prove your skills with different challenges. And of course you can race against players all around the world.
To use Gamecenter services, you need to be logged on to Gamecenter and assign your player to a Dash Race color. This player will be marked by a small Gamecenter icon badge.
As soon as you are logged on for Gamecenter, the playertype selection will show a Gamecenter icon as a fifth button in the middle. Tapping it will select that color for your Gamecenter player. Now you can climb up the leaderboards or score achievements with it.
Global Races
Gamecenter enables you to drive races with friends and even completely strangers from around the world. Just select for at least one player that should be choosen via Gamecenter again the GC icon from the playertype selection. After your own player was selected, all further selections will automatically be a remote Gamecenter player (indicated by a multiplayer icon with a Gamecenter badge clipped to it).
As soon as you now start the game, you will first be presented the regular Gamecenter player selection dialog that you probably know already from other games. Invite as many friends as you like, or go for a so-called automatch game where Gamecenter chooses arbitrary players (and even strangers) that right now are looking as well for the same number of players. Just press Play for this option and wait to be connected by Gamecenter.
Special Handling for Automatch
If you invite more players than you initially assigned to specific colors, they are distributed to free slots first, then replace Robots.
You can also visit the Dash Race Facebook Fanpage to make dates for an online game with other Dash Race fans. (Use this link if you have not installed the Facebook app: http://facebook.com/DashRace)When you let Gamecenter choose the other players, then there is a special handling, because it is not clear then who is the game master (i.e. chooses the track and game mode and might additionally add robots or local players). Everyone just applied for a game, and no one is per se dedicated to be in control of the next match. So once Gamecenter found and connected the desired number of players, the game master is chosen randomly, and it could be you (and your choosen track), or any other of the new players. The one chosen will get the start screen and can do further settings, while the others then just wait for the beginning of the match.
By the way: Dash Race will show the approximate number of players that are currently looking for other players on the Internet on the main menu screen (in case there are any, otherwise this display is switched off). The higher this number is, the larger is the chance of finding players quickly.
Voice ChatWhen playing Dash Race with other remote players via Gamecenter, you can have a voice chat with them at the same time. Of course playing is much more fun if you can curse at someone who just blocked your winning move...
On your startscreen (or any time during the game in the pause screen) you can choose to switch voice chat on or off. If you are invited for a game, a default setting from the Dash Race configuration is initially used. It can be generally on or off in the first place, or you can have it only switched on in case a friend invites you. It will then be initially off if you are taken into a race by an unknown player (you can then still switch it on through the pause screen, though).
Text MessagesIf voice chat is unavailable or unwanted, you can also exchange information by providing a text message with each move you make. When it's your turn, just tap the message icon next to the pen and enter a message (don't worry, timing will be stopped as long as you enter the message).
Once you commit your move, the message will be shown to all players (and again: reading it will not consume your move time).
